Please help Jaime Coyle

While I was reading through my local newspaper, the Valley Breeze, earlier today, the story of 13 year old Jaime Coyle jumped out at me. I learned from the article Jaime is one of the top young female hockey players in Rhode Island and just like Tedy Bruschi and myself, she apparently suffered a stroke from a PFO. This occured while Jaime was on the ice, playing in a hockey tournament this past weekend in Massachusetts. Don’t ask me why, but even before I turned the page from the headline “Young skater Coyle suffers stroke during tournament” my gut told me it was related to her heart. Please read her story here and help if you can. She is currently battling to recover in a Massachusetts hospital and I just returned from a meeting in my home town where Jaime's coaches are planning a fund raiser to help in her recovery.

For additional updates regarding Jamie, and any upcoming events planned, you can visit the coaches website. A message center has been established so Jamie can stay in touch with her friends and family as she recovers. Please contact the coaches through this website if you would like to assist in any way.

I spoke with Jaime's mother and she is now stable and will begin therapy shortly to recover from the stroke, followed by surgery in Boston to repair the small hole in her heart. A fund has been established in her name, The Jamie Coyle Fund, to help defray any medical costs she will incur during the long and intensive recovery. If you wish to make any donations Jaime's coaches tell me you can go to any local Citizens Bank and make the donation there.

Any support for the Coyle Family will be greatly appreciated. Jaime's mom has especially asked that you take a minute to pray for Jamie first and for most to give her the strength to battle back from this tragic event.

I posted Jaime Coyle's story earlier today on my stroke blog and you can follow her updates here:
